Hi! My name is Gerry Walsh and I'm Fit and Want to be More Fit
When I met Fred in 2008, I had been a runner for over 25 years. During this time, I had logged over 30,000 miles and completed more than 20 full and half marathons. Although I was an experienced runner, I still battled with weight problems and also lacked flexibility. Runners are notorious for not stretching after runs - just want to get to the coffee shop!
I also had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to get faster and counter the notion that you get slower as you get older.
I've been working weekly with Fred since that time. Technically, Fred is a fountain of knowledge for me. Although I am a seasoned runner, I discovered I didn't know that much. To achieve our goals of increased speed, better flexibility, and weight loss, Fred has introduced me to innovative training methods. In particular, I've learned about the benefits of training with heart rate monitors. Now on our long runs with my buddies, instead of talking about work, sports, or how much beer we drank the night before, we're asking each other, "what's your heart rate now?" or "what zone are you running in"? That's brand new language for us.
Fred is the most encouraging, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and innovative coach I know. Through his support, I have successfully achieved my goals over the past year. I lost 16 pounds and feel much better. On Thanksgiving Day weekend, Fred and I ran the Valley Harvest Half-Marathon and I had my fastest time (2:06) in eight years. I could not have done that without Fred's support. We now have a goal of beating 2:00 and I am confident we will do this in 2009. I am proof you can teach an ol' dog new tricks.
